How Much Does Website Development Cost in India in 2026?

A straight answer to the question every business owner asks first. What a website actually costs in India, what changes the price, and where the cheap quotes hide their catch.

The honest answer is a range, and anyone who quotes a flat number before understanding your project is guessing. In India in 2026, a professional custom business website typically costs between ₹40,000 and ₹2,00,000. A larger platform with logins, payments or dashboards runs from ₹2 lakh into the tens of lakhs. But the range matters less than understanding what moves you within it, so you can tell a fair quote from a trap.

Why quotes vary so wildly

You will get quotes for the same brief ranging from ₹8,000 to ₹3,00,000. That is not because some developers are dishonest and others are greedy. It is because the word 'website' covers wildly different things.

A ₹8,000 website is almost always a template dropped into WordPress or a page builder, filled with your logo and text, and handed over. It exists, it loads, and it looks broadly fine. A ₹1,50,000 website is custom-designed, engineered for speed, structured for Google, built to convert visitors into enquiries, and made to last five years. Both are technically 'a website.' They are not the same product, any more than a bicycle and a car are both 'transport.'

What actually changes the price

Five things move a quote more than anything else. First, the number of pages and how much of the content is unique versus repeated. Second, whether the design is custom or a template. Third, whether it is a static marketing site or an application with logins, payments and databases. Fourth, integrations: payment gateways, CRMs, booking systems, WhatsApp. Fifth, whether performance and SEO are engineered in or bolted on later, which they rarely are.

A five-page custom business website engineered for speed and search sits at the lower-to-middle of the range. Add a booking system, a login area, or an online store, and you are building an application, which is a different tier of work.

The hidden cost of a cheap website

The ₹8,000 website is rarely the cheap option once you count what happens next. It is usually slow, which costs you Google rankings and ad conversions. It is built on a template you do not control, so every change means paying again. It has no proper SEO structure, so it never ranks. And within eighteen months most businesses rebuild it, at which point they have paid twice.

A well-built website is more expensive on day one and cheaper across five years. It earns rankings, converts more of your traffic, and does not need replacing. Price the total, not the invoice.

How to read a quote

A fair quote is itemised. It names the pages, the features, the integrations, who owns the code, and what happens after launch. A vague quote that just says 'website design and development, ₹X' is hiding either scope or corners.

Ask three questions of anyone who quotes you. Do I own the code and hosting at the end? Is the design custom or a template? What are the Lighthouse and mobile speed scores you deliver? The answers separate a real investment from a cheap liability.

What Kodinav charges, and why

Projects at Kodinav start from ₹75,000, and you get a fixed, itemised quote after a free discovery call, not a number pulled from the air. That floor reflects what it costs to build a website properly: custom design, performance engineering, SEO structure, and a codebase you own. If your need is genuinely smaller, I will tell you honestly, and sometimes the honest answer is that a ₹2,000-a-month tool solves your problem better than any custom build.
